Many years ago, we read a sociological study (no, we can’t cite it, we’re not that kind of gal.) The study took different adjectives and applied them to a gender (either male, or female) then asked for a characterization of the type of person based on the combination of adjective and gender. There were a whole lot of them, but the one that stayed with us was “Assertive.”
Men who were “assertive” were characterized as leaders, management material.
Women who were “assertive” were characterized as bitches.
